 Hi Everyone,

I have been working on these bracelets for ages…  (seen here)

It would appear from these images that Ive got it all down and its working…but actually its not.  Im having an INCREDIBLY difficult time keeping the resin AWAY from the wood.  Ive tried, what feels like, everything..  The bracelet sits in a mould. then I pour the resin into the space Ive cut out from the wood.  Then, it manages to leak all over the bracelet.  Ive tried clamps, tape, it still goes through.  Ive been looking at this girls jewellery:

Shes the only one Ive seen doing something similar, but it would appear that puts the whole piece of wood into the resin, where as I dont want to do that.  Though, her pieces look amazing…

Anyway, any advice??  How do I let the resin attach to the wood, but not leak all over the wood.

Hi Lindsey,

Im afraid there is no good way to keep the resin away from the wood during casting.  Have you considered a tongue and groove technique?  Heres how I would approach it:

1.  Create two separate wood pieces with tongue/groove attachments.
2.  Make a silicone mold of the piece you want to cast in resin.
3.  Cast the resin piece.
4.  Assemble the wood and resin piece.
5.  Use resin or another good adhesive to make the pieces join securely.

In looking at the other link to the other artist you posted, thats how I would approach creating that piece as well; cast the resin separately from the wood, then attach it to the wood later.

Otherwise, if you are going to cast the resin and wood together in the same mold, be prepared for a lot of sanding.
