You won't find any credential letters after my name or fancy art degrees on my wall. What I do comes from pure love of crafting. I've been crafting since I was a little girl sewing Barbie accessories and clothes. Creating award-winning school projects that were more often than not creative and crafty has always been my style. Sewing in Home Ec. class was a favorite but it never entered my mind that I could make a career of crafting! Soon after I got married we were transferred to Calgary, Canada. This gave me an opportunity to concentrate on my crafts with ladies who shared my same interests. We put a few things in a little booth at a local craft mall and my life changed forever! We joined HIA, the crafting industry association, and attended our first trade show. I was overwhelmed and blown away, to say the least. But the new world I discovered would have to wait. The many moves to come kept me busy turning each new house into a home with new drapes, paint, and accessories of my own design. Shortly after I'd finish, It would be time to move again. We all have a path to follow and mine became clear the day a Hobby Lobby store opened in our small town and I was given the opportunity to teach craft classes there. Even though that move was a short stay, the manager and his wife are still two of my closest friends. My path took a sharp turn after that as it was time to care for some loved ones as cancer slowly took them away. It took me a long time to recover, or at least what I thought was recovery. The creative level I once had was gone. After a long struggle to find out what was wrong, I was told an ugly disease called Fibromyalgia had overtaken me. At this point, I decided this was what my life had come to and I would no longer be able to do my crafts. It broke my heart that I could not enjoy my wonderful craftroom, so I filled up a donation truck with all of my supplies and half-finished projects, except for my resin. The very next day I found answers that, for me, were the right combination of medicines that would control this debilitating disease. As it turns out, clearing out my craftroom was a good thing; it gave me the freedom to focus. The creativity began to flow more than ever. All I have to do is follow my creative path. Because of the Fibromyalgia, I know how precious life is and how blessed I am. You have to learn to spend your precious energy on the things that make your soul sparkle. I live my dream everyday thanks to all my wonderful ResinObsession customers! |
