Detailed Description of All of Our Resins:

Alumilite 610 Foam:

Alumilite Foam is not typically for making jewelry although a creative mind could certainly use it for such. Commonly used for scenery (such as lava, mud flows, mountains, hills, and various other terrains), miniature trains, structures, taxidermy, war gaming special effects, and more. It has an opaque tan color finish that can be colored with an opaque colorant.

Alumilite Water Clear Casting Resin - Transparent:

Alumilite Water Clear Casting Resin is a polyurethane resin that is excellent for making jewelry as it is literally "water clear" and machinable, however it does need degassing and/or vacuuming for a bubble-free casting. Using a transparent colorant, you can color the resin while still keeping its transparency, or when using an opaque colorant you can color the resin and give it an opaque quality. It is the only resin with a UV inhibitor, therefore it will not yellow in sun light.

Alumilite Super Plastic Resin - Opaque Tan:

Alumilite Super Plastic Resin is a polyurethane resin and is an excellent choice for making your own jewelry; it is machinable, has a natural opaque tan color that can be colored with a colorant, paintable with spray paint, makes excellent patterns/templates due to its extremely high durability. For bubble-free castings it will need to be degassed and/or vacuumed for bubble-free casts.

Alumilite Amazing Casting Resin - Opaque White:

Alumilite Amazing Casting Resin is a polyurethane resin and is one of our most user-friendly resins. Easy to use, it's the perfect choice for making jewelry; it has a natural opaque white color which can be colored with a colorant. It is paintable with spray paint, drillable, and hardens in 10 minutes.

Castin'Craft Polyester Casting Resin:

Castin'Craft Polyester Casting Resin is a polyester resin that makes excellent, large castings, is extremely clear, cures very hard, although it will be affected by the environment (if you live in a very dry climate, your casting will cure faster and if you live in a very humid climate, your climate will cure slower) and of course, it can be colored with a colorant. For bubble-free castings, you will need to degas with a heat gun (a crème brûlée torch works just as well). Cindy the ResinLady recommends that if you have a good pour that you are especially proud of, you write down all of your steps, the weather patterns of the day, and which materials you used for duplicating the perfect pour again. The casting surface that touches the air will cure sticky, to fix this, coat the sticky side with another resin or simply spray with a sealant.

Castin'Craft Catalyst:

Castin'Craft Catalyst is NOT a resin, it is a necessary additive when using Castin'Craft Polyester Casting Resin. Castin'Craft Polyester Casting Resin comes with a bottle of catalyst, so you will only need to purchase this catalyst if you use the Castin'Craft Polyester Casting Resin and have run out of catalyst.

EasyCast Clear Epoxy Resin - Transparent:

EasyCast Clear Epoxy Resin is an epoxy resin and it is the most user-friendly of the epoxy resins. It is an excellent choice for making jewelry with its clear quality and ease of use. It can also be colored with a colorant. For bubble-free castings, you will need to degas with a heat gun (a crème brûlée torch works just as well). EasyCast when polished will not develop a high gloss or wet look like the original surface. For a high gloss surface, EasyCast or Envirotex Lite can be used to recoat the surface.

IMPORTANT NOTE: EasyCast Epoxy Resin can be safely applied to cured polyester resin, however Polyester resin CANNOT be applied over EasyCast. It will attack and soften the cast.

Envirotex Lite:

Envirotex Lite is a polymer resin that is good for coating, not casting, however it will work just fine for shallow bezels. It is transparent and can be colored with a colorant. For bubble-free castings, you will need to degas with a heat gun (a crème brûlée torch works just as well).

Lisa Pavelka's Signature Series Magic-Glos™ UV Resin Polymer:

Lisa Pavelka's Magic-Glos™ is a UV resin, meaning it needs a UV light such as the sun or a UV light to cure. Very user-friendly, Magic-Glos™ is clear, requires no mixing, features low or no bubbles, great for classes or easy craft projects for kids or beginners, and is self-doming.

ResinObsession sells four different types of resin:

Epoxy Resin:

Epoxy Resins do not feature a UV inhibitor, meaning they will yellow in sunlight. In direct heat, the casting will soften but will return to hard when cool. If too much colorant is added, the casting will cure soft. In addition, epoxies have a low odor, an easy 1:1 mixing ratio, and are an excellent choice for small castings (approximately 6 ounces or smaller), For bubble-free castings, you will need to degas with a heat gun (a crème brûlée torch works just as well). When polishing with a buffing wheel, please use care as the created heat and friction can melt or soften the cast.

Polyester Resin:

Polyester resins do not have a UV inhibitor, meaning they will yellow in sunlight, however they do have a longer open time than the polyurethane resins and are great for large castings. Proper ventilation or outdoor use is recommended when using a polyester resin, as they have a highly offensive odor. They are a bit "temperamental" when it comes to weather patterns, as cure time can lengthen in humid climates and shorten in dry climates. For bubble-free castings, you will need to degas with a heat gun (a crème brûlée torch works just as well). Polyester resin cured hard as a rock and polishes to a beautiful high floss finish on a buffing wheel.

Polymer Resin:

Polymer resins do not include a UV inhibitor, meaning they will yellow in sunlight, however they are low odor, and extremely clear. Keep in mind, they are not intended for castings, but instead for coating or shallow bezels. Up to 2 pours no more than 1/4  inch thick is recommended.

Polyurethane Resin:

Aside from Alumilite Water Clear Casting Resin, Polyurethane resins do not have a UV inhibitor, meaning they will yellow in sunlight. They are compatible with both small and large castings, feature a low odor, and will not soften in moderate heat. For bubble-free castings, degassing and/or vacuuming is required. Polyurethanes also cure hard as a rock.
