Hi, I am new to this and am trying to epoxy a tumbler that has no glitter or anything on it. Do I need to sand or treat the surface before applying the epoxy? I tried without sanding and the epoxy had a couple dimples in it and when I was trying to get the dimples out, I saw that the epoxy would peel off of the surface of the tumbler.
      Thanks for any help.
These are just tumblers like you would buy at Wal-Mart or other places..

      Hi Jon,

Resin won’t stick to anything waxy, which sounds like it may be the surface of your cup. This article explains more: https://www.resinobsession.com/resin-resin-resin/surfaces-resin-wont-stick-to/

Yes, you should sand the surface of your cup.

Thank you for your input. After feeling the tumbler, It is kinda slick/waxy feeling. What grit would be the best to sand it with? Thanks, Jon

        Hi Jon,

It doesn’t need to be anything coarse. You only want to take the surface off. Start with an 800 grit and see if that works for you.
