Good evening – I am searching for a food contact approved coating for use on a range of cast-iron salt and pepper mills that I am developing. The coating must be able to prevent corrosion, protecting the cast-iron from the salt within it, as well as being a safe food contact material. To make things slightly more complex, it also must be able to withstand a fairly high temperature to allow us to powder coat the external surfaces of the mills and cure them at around 200°C. I thought an epoxy resin might be a good place to look… Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Hi Guy,

I’m afraid I don’t know of any resin formula that can withstand temps of 200C.

      Hey Guy,
this sounds like you actually should glaze the material.
Resin will not withstand the 200C at all. It is still “just” a plastic.

So yeah, look into glazing maybe.

Thanks for the replies! I have looked at vitreous enamelling them also. I am sure there will be a suitable coating. Maybe the same sort of coating used on an oven…
