Hey, first things first I’m super new to this so bear with please. I’ve done some initial research into resin and have a general idea about some of the concepts but that’s it so far.

So yeah, me and a friend have been looking into making resin guitars. At first just for fun but definitely with an eye to eventually sell them down the line. The biggest obstacle we see facing us (aside from the skills we’ll have to learn) is that resin obviously yellows over time. We would want to sell these guitars as premium products and having them turn yellow at some point down the line is not ideal.

So after researching this for a while the suggested method seems to be; Use a UV resistant Resin, and then varnish it with UV Resistant Urethane.

Pretty much I would just like to know people’s thoughts on this and if there is alternative or superior techniques?

Anyway thanks in advance for any advice/ replies

      Hi Jake,

Unfortunately, all resins are going to yellow over time. Resins with UV inhibitors and stabilizers help extend the time before yellowing occurs. However, things such as mixing off ratio (even though it still can cure without tackiness), putting over an improperly cured lacquer, excessive heat, and or constant exposure to sunlight can speed up the yellowing process. How long the epoxy will last in its clear state is very difficult to predict.
