Never worked with resin, but want to make graduation gifts with polaroid pictures of each student in either a standing block or coaster–maybe 0.5 inch thick and approximately 4.5 x 4.5″ (if I can find an appropriate mold). Questions: any difference in modpodge spray vs acrylic clear spray over the polaroids first? it’s about 80 students, so paint-sealing the front and back of each one would take a lot of time. Also, what type of resin to use? I want it to look shiny and crystal clear, but still need it to be wary of budget since there are so many gifts to make. Anywhere to bulk order resin for this type of project? Also, should I put the picture in face-down vs face-up in the mold?–I have heard about molds drying and having the edges on the surface of the mold be a little higher than the center of the mold. Do i need to spray the molds first with non-stick spray for resin? ANY advice would be much appreciated.

      Hi Wincha,

What a fun project! I’ve got a few comments to help you get started.

I’m not sure polaroids are going to do well. I would expect them to warp and twist in the resin, not to mention you’ll have to have a big mold to put them in.

This article shows how to turn a drawing into a pendant. The same technique applies if you were to print the pictures and include them in resin. https://www.resinobsession.com/resin-tutorials/turn-drawing-into-jewelry/

As for a bulk resin purchase, we can definitely help you with that. It comes down to whether or not you mix 3 or more ounces of resin at one time.

For pours of 3 ounces or less, the Resin Obsession super clear resin is what you want:  https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession-super-clear-resin
For pours of 3 ounces or more, the Resin obsession deep pour casting resin works great:  https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession-deep-pour-resin
