      This question comes from Stephanie:

Hi, i have been browsing try too get some information, about resin. i’m trying to make roses in resin and put them on several pearl bracelets. what i do not understand is what kind of resin to use, i live in Colorado and its very dry and cold out here and i would like to turn the rose pieces into beads and using a jewelers grade flex shaft would it ruin my rose piece? the next question i have is how do you measure the rose bud to the mold i was thinking the miniature rose bud would fit into a mold about 26mm or 30mm this is very important because i want to make the rose 3D kind of like a crystal ball can you please give me some suggestions Thanks!

      Hi Stephanie,

Since it sounds like you are going to cast the resin into a mold, I would recommend the Resin Obsession super clear resin. It mixes in a thin viscosity, so it is ideal for molds. You can find it here: https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/products/resin-obsession-super-clear-resin-6-oz-kit-jewelry-quality-resin If you are very caareful with casting, you should only need to minimally use a flex shaft to finish the piece. You can see what I’m talking about in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNSvffZ-il4

As for how big a sphere mold you are going to need, that will need to be your decision. The less border you have around the rosebud, the bigger they are going to look in the resin, but then your casting will be a smaller overall size.
