Here are images of the disaster:

I’ve put hours into this end table. I was slowly hearing to release bubbles that kept evolving from the wood stump. However, I ended up expediting the hardening process and made a wonderful bump in the resin. My questions are:

      1) This is Pro Marine Epoxy Resin. Can I sand this and pour a new flood coat?

      2) If I sand and pour a flood coat, will you see any imperfections?

So close to the finish line and I messed up!

      Thank you for your help.

In addition to my question, can I use a belt sander to get the large amount off? Then I was going to use all the way to 3000 grit to smooth it, then pour again to even it. I just want to really know if you’ll see sand mark scratches or any blemishes. It’s hard to think that a flood surface pour will make the impurities disappear with a floor pour.

        Hi Zach,

I have not used Pro Marine resin, so these comments are based upon my results using other epoxies.

Yes, you can sand epoxies. Start with a coarse wet/dry sandpaper. In general, epoxies don’t do well with the heat produced from the friction of a belt sander. If you want to try, the resin surface needs to stay wet. Please take proper safety precautions as I want to be sure you don’t hurt yourself.

If you end with a 1000 grit or higher sandpaper, you should not see any sanding lines when you pour the next layer. I think ending with 3000 grit is a good idea.
