Hello everyone. I’m new on here and new to resins.

I am creating and inlay pattern on a guitar neck. I have a few materials I typically use, abalone, mother of pearl, stabilized wood and etc. But I’d like to experiment with using resins. I thought I could make a 1.5″x1.5″x6″ brick of it. Cut it down into thin slices and use it as needed. This way I could use all kinds of colors and make swirl patterns and so on into the brick, but use it and cut it as needed.

I’ve been experimenting with a product called Smooth -Cast 325. It is a clear. But when I cast it and let it cure… I’ve been waiting for about 3 days for it to cure, it is still a bit soft. I can dent it with my fingernail.

I’m curious, if I’m doing something wrong or if it’s just not the right resin?

Do I need more time to let it cure? It is a deep pour at 1.5×1.5×6″.

Would there be a better resin to use? Something that cures harder? The Smooth Cast 325 says it has a Shore Hardness of D72.

Any thoughts, tricks or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

      Hi Reverence,

How much resin are you using at once?
