This question comes through email by Sydney:

I need some help with how I can sand my jewelry pendants without making them matte. I have 1500 grit sandpaper, but I sand the resin with 300 grit first. Is this what is making it matte?
Also, is there something I can use to make my resin shiny after sanding it? Ive heard the spray is hit or miss.

And lastly, I want to drill through my resin to attach a jump ring. What kind of drill should I be looking for?

      Hi Sydney,

300 grit is a great way to get the big areas sanded down quickly.  You will need to gradually work down to the 1500 grit though.  Otherwise, you can still have the matte look that youre referring to.  I would suggest going 300 – 400 – 600 – 1000 – 1500.  There are also some really great 3M polishing papers that I like as well.

As for a glossy finish for your resin charms, Im actually doing a video tutorial for that as I write this!  I will post the link in the next 48 hours once it is up on you tube.

To drill a hole in your resin charms, a dremel tool is a great way to get started.  You should be able to find one at any major home improvement store.  If youre looking for something that is a little more versatile and fits your hand better, a flex shaft is what I prefer.  They cost a bit more money, but will last a long time if you care for them!

I have only done resin for 2-3 weeks (and hook for life). I have looked at other videos and they talked about using car wax or some kind compound similar to car polishing.  How does that work in compared to sandpaper. I am using easy-cast resin (the soft stuff).

      Thank and love your site,
      Amanda

      Amanda,

Sandpaper is necessary to get off any big pieces or tags.  Polishing compounds are mainly to do surface stuff.

The resin gloss sealer spray may help you as well. You can find it in our store here:

      Here’s how I use it:
