i recently turned a bowling ball into a bowl on my wood lathe. from what i can find on the net, the shell of the ball is some kind of urethane resin. the problem i ran into is, after sanding and polishing, the swirl pattern disapered on most of the bowl. the swirls do run all the way through the shell of the ball and can still be seen on the un finished inside. i used a sanding paste that is made of bee’s wax, mineral oil and rotten stone. could the mineral oil have caused a reaction? i resanded the bowl and polished it with plastic compound, but the pattern did not come back. any ideas on this?
