I am new to resin and have not purchased any yet. I plan to make some canvas pour art pieces to hang on my wall. However, I have a few questions:

1. If the piece will be indoor but exposed to a lot of sunlight, what is the best way to protect the resin from turning yellow? What is the best product to start with to make sure it is clear (and if left unprotected, i.e. not using a UV protective coat, how long until the piece starts to get a yellow tint?)

2. Approximately, how heavy would a finished thin poured art piece be that measures about 2 ft x 2 ft on a canvas base?

Hi Sara,

Unfortunately, all resins are going to yellow over time. Resins with UV inhibitors and stabilizers help extend the time before yellowing occurs. However, things such as mixing off ratio (even though it still can cure without tackiness), putting over an improperly cured lacquer, excessive heat, and or constant exposure to sunlight can speed up the yellowing process. How long the epoxy will last in its clear state is very difficult to predict.

I don’t have an exact weight for resin on that size canvas, however, as a guide, you could go with the weight of the resin as the additive weight to your canvas. For a canvas this size with an 1/8 inch pour, you can expect to use 20 to 22 ounces of resin. (Find the math here on how to calculate how much resin you need:
