I’m going to cut to the chase on this one. This is one of the ugliest paintings I have created in awhile. My goal was to add some Pearl Ex metallic colors in an additional layer on painting #93 to give it some more depth.
What happened is that the colors came in too dark and look horrible with the painting.
Here’s how it started:
I only mixed four ounces of resin for the next pour. I didn’t want to put on much resin as I was trying to keep the colors from moving much.
Once resin was mixed, I applied it to the painting — just enough to cover it without fish eyes. It was quite a thin layer. Next, I colored two-thirds an ounce each with Pearl Ex shimmer violet and Pearl Ex Dark Brown. I wanted something to contrast the pink and magenta, but compliment the gold/bronze already in the painting. I also added a tiny drop of dimethicone to each color.
Sorry if I just made you feel like you are going to throw up. LOL
Here’s what I don’t like and wish I had done differently.
- 1. No dimethicone in Pearl Ex colors. I don’t like that look.
- 2. I should have gone with lighter Pearl Ex colors. I couldn’t believe how dark they showed up with this painting. Up close, they are quite pretty and shimmering, but from a couple of feet away, they look so dark.
- 3. I think letting the clear resin cure a little while longer before adding the colors would have kept everything contained better. I don’t like how the Pearl Ex colors obscure the painting underneath with what really wasn’t much resin.
What has been one of your resin painting fails recently?
