Brand new to this hobby. I want to place a shell in resin. Found a dish that is perfect shape to hold shell. Can I use the dish as a mold? Will mold release spray work? Or do I need to make a silicone mold? Thanks.

When you say dish, do you mean something like a glass or ceramic dish? If so, I’m afraid they won’t be flexible enough to release a resin casting, even with mold release. A flexible silicone or plastic mold would be a better choice. We have a large selection in our shop: https://shop.resinobsession.com/collections/molds

Thank you. I could never find a mold to fit, shell is oval, 3″ by 4″ and 1″ deep. Any chance WD40 prior to pouring resin would help?

No, unfortunately, the mold itself needs to be flexible in addition to using a mold release.
