I am interested in crocheting coasters and embedding them in resin. I live in an apartment with a small balcony. What is the best beginner kit with the least amount of toxic smell. I don’t want my neighbors or manager complaining of toxic smells.

Also, if I pour a layer of resin on the bottom, then put in my crocheted coaster, (making sure than my crocheted item is smaller than the mold) then add more resin, will the top resin seal to the bottom layer?

      Hi Beth,

In general, I think epoxy resins are okay smell-wise to work in an apartment. In my opinion, the smell isn’t any more noticeable than fingernail polish. DO NOT use a polyester resin. That smell is awful!

As for your second layer, yes, the second layer will adhere to the first layer. If you pour the second layer while the first layer is semi solid (not fully cured), the pour line will be less noticeable.
