Is epoxy resin strong enough to support it’s own weight?

I’m taking the river table idea & turning it on its head.

I’m making a sliding door, with a design that is a bit like the river tables, but with less of a plank and more resin. So the hanging hardware would drill into the resin at the top of the door.

Can I use the same epoxy used in the tables, or look to polyester or polyurethane resin?

      Hi Jean,

What a neat idea! If resin could be used for a project like this is not something I’m sure of. Here are the two things that concern me:

I expect the same amount of resin will be heavier than the same amount of wood. i.e. I don’t know that regular hardware can hold up something like this.

Knowing that people bump into doors, I’m also concerned with whether or not the door would crack where the resin meets the wood.

If you try this, would you mind giving us an update?
