Cast Resin Paperweight with Silver Leafing
A cast resin paperweight makes a great gift idea. The best part is that you can make up a bunch and keep them on hand for occasions all throughout the year. From birthdays to holidays, this resin paperweight DIY project is a gorgeous way to show someone you care!
Resin Supplies needed to make this cast resin paperweight:
Spray the paperweight mold with the mold release spray and allow it to dry completely. Mix up enough resin, according to the package directions, to almost fill the mold. (For this mold, it took about two ounces of mixed resin.) Pour into the mold.
Sprinkle in some of the gilding flakes. Crush some with your fingers to make small pieces. Use your stir stick to press them down into the paperweight. You will need to babysit this for a while as until the resin starts to set up, the gilding flakes will float and drift. Occasionally check on them and readjust.
Set the entire thing aside and allow to cure completely.
Mix up some additional resin and add colorants. I used three colors per paperweight but you can use as few or as many colors as you like.
Add these colors randomly to the paperweight mold.
Use a stir stick to slightly mix and marble the colors as well as making sure the entire surface is covered.
Allow to completely cure then remove from the mold.
You will love the way this resin paperweight DIY catches the light as the gilding flakes glisten! Make a batch with your favorite colors or the favorite colors of your gift recipient. They will love this handmade gift for their desk!
