Coloring resin

Coloring resin with a different brand resin color.  Is that okay?

This post is the next in a series of experiments on coloring resin.  What I am investigating is whether or not you can color one brand’s resin with another brand’s resin colors.

adding orange color to resin

For this set of experiments, I mixed up two ounces of Castin’ Craft Easy Cast resin in a 10 ounce reusable plastic mixing cup.  After mixing the resin, I poured approximately 5 cc into individual 1 ounce mixing cups.  In each cup, I mixed in 1 to 2 drops of each of the Resin Obsession opaque color pigments.

Mixed resin was cast into cabochon mold 403.

Not shown:  The mold was sprayed with a light mist of Castin’ Craft mold release and conditioner 30 minutes before pouring the resin.

The results after they were demolded:  SUCCESS

The colors are what I would expect if I had used them in the Resin Obsession super clear resin.

The colors were rich and completely opaque.  I’m happy with the results.
