As spring has arrived a bit early here, it has me motivated to bring some of the bright colors I’m seeing from outside to inside. What better way to do that than with plants and flowers. This easy DIY resin planter tutorial will have you making planter boxes in every color you can think of. (and it really is pretty easy to make.)
Amazing Casting Resin
Alumilite ocean blue dye
Resin Obsession super clear resin
Resin Obsession transparent blue pigment
Stampendous microglitter China blue
Hexagon shaped silicone mold
One ounce mixing cups
Ten ounce mixing cups
Use the cardboard pieces to prop up the silicone mold. The more you prop it up the more the resin will move to one side during casting.
Not shown. Measure and mix 1 ounce total of Alumilite Amazing Casting resin. Once the resin is fully mixed, add in a drop of ocean blue dye. Mix slightly, but not all the way.
Note: The is a quick curing resin. You will only have approximately 1 1/2 minutes to complete this step.
Pour the resin into the bottom part of the mold and allow to cure.
Mix two ounces of Resin Obsession super clear resin and color it with transparent blue pigment. Add in micro glitter to give it an extra sparkle.
Place the cardboard and mold so that it’s lying flat (horizontal) on your table. Fill the mold with the blue resin mixture. Allow to fully cure.
Once the resin has cured, demold from the silicone mold. Add your favorite plant to create a nifty little resin desk decoration. (I used a cactus because I’m horrible about remember to water plants.)
You can drill through the bottom of the planter if necessary to create drainage holes for your plant.
This easy DIY resin planter project would make a great gift for a teacher or co-worker. It adds a little bit of flair to a desk without being overpowering.
